Prägraten am Grossvenediger
When you travel to the final section of rich green Virgental Valley, you will find the friendly village of Prägraten am Grossvenediger.
Altitude: 1,312 m asl
Prägraten includes the hamlets of Bobojoch, Wallhorn, St. Andrä, Bichl and Hinterbichl. Towering high above the village is the Grossvenediger mountain, which reaches an altitude of 3,674 m and is thus one of the highest summits all over Austria. Prägraten is especially popular for the surrounding Hohe Tauern National Park. Boasting an enchanting panorama, an untouched natural scenery and a rich variety of animals it attracts hikers and lovers of nature alike.
Numerous hiking trails and traditional Alpine huts and inns are waiting for you. The Umbalfälle Waterfalls promise a special kind of experience: an educational path will take you to this fascinating glacial stream with huge water masses cascading down the rocks. Worth seeing is also the Islitzer Corn Mill in Hinterbichl. Two times a week you can watch the owners grinding flour and get to know lots of interesting things.
Those who want to keep active during their holidays can look forward to a riding stable, cycling paths, mountain bike trails, tennis, bowling, fishing and a practice area for rock climbers. And in winter, the local ice rink and several cross-country ski runs provide plenty of opportunities to all ages. The surrounding area boasts even two skiing areas: the Matreier Goldried and the skiing area Prägraten.
