Alta Badia
Alta Badia boasts some of the most beautiful summits of the Dolomites and includes numerous villages and municipalities such as Corvara, Colfosco, La Villa, S.Cassiano, Pedraces and La Val.
This is one of the two South Tyrolean valleys where the Ladin language is spoken. Besides Italian and German, this Rhaeto-Romanic language is actually the third South Tyrolean language, even though those speaking it are a minority - that is to say “a minority within a minority”, since South Tyrol itself is known as the only German-speaking province all over Italy. The Ladin language developed long time ago, when the language of local shepherds mingled with the Roman one. And today this language is still spoken in the valleys of Alta Badia and near-by Val Gardena.
Alta Badia is also the valley where at 2,800 m asl some ancient bones of the so-called Ursus Ladinicus were found. Today, the remains of this special kind of bears are exhibited in the information centre of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park. Join the guided excursions to the caves at 2,800 m and explore the legendary past of the Dolomites. And in winter, skiers and snowboarders can look forward to the stunning ski region of Sella Ronda.
