Located in lower Val Venosta - some 10 km from Merano - the valley includes the hamlets of Monte Catarina, Val di Fosse in the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park, Certosa, Madonna di Senales, Vernago al Lago and Maso Corto.
Altitude: 1,245 - 2,011 m asl
Numerous sites of interest are waiting to be discovered in beautiful Val Senales. Maso Corto e.g. hosts a renowned year-round ski area, the Val Senales Glacier, which numerous national teams use as their annual training camp. And this is just one reason why Val Senales is oh-so well-known.
Vernago nestles at the shores of a pristine lake and is surrounded by sparkling white mountain peaks. An adventurous trail will take you from Vernago right to the place, where the legendary Iceman was found some years ago. And if you want to know more about the Iceman you can visit the adventurous ArcheoParc of Madonna di Senales. Lovers of culture can look forward to the pilgrimage church of Madonna di Senales and the former Carthusian monastery of Certosa. Dating back to long passed times, the monastery was closed down in 1782. Today it hosts interesting arts exhibitions but only in summer.
Val di Fosse boasts an extraordinarily rich flora and fauna. Hikers are recommended a trip throughout the fascinating scenery of the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park. Enter this stunning mountain world and let your senses loose. And Monte Catarina is the ideal spot for relaxing moments in the great outdoors!
