Eisacktal-Wipptal Winter 2011

Valle Isarco

The rich green valleys of Valle Isarco and Alta Val d’Isarco stretch from Passo Brennero in the north - which serves as the border between Italy and Austria - almost until the city of Bolzano in the south.

At Fortezza, Alta Val d’Isarco finally meets with Valle Isarco. Two cities define these valleys: Vipiteno in the north and Bressanone half way to Bolzano. Today this stretch is exactly the route the Brennero Highway takes. But this isn’t anything new. Already in long passed times, this was a busy communication and trade route for both Italy and Austria.

In the west, Valle Isarco and Alta Val d’Isarco are surrounded by the pale mountains of the Dolomites, and in the south lie the fascinating Sarentine Alps. Among the natural highlights is the Cascate di Stanghe gorge close to Racines. And in winter the skiing areas of Gitschberg-Jochtal and Racines-Passo Giovo are nearby. By the way, have you ever tried the culinary delicacies of Valle Isarco?
