Casere / Valle Aurina
Where Valle Aurina ends, at the bottom of the Picco dei Tre Signori summit (3,499 m asl), lies the most northern village of South Tyrol.
Altitude: 1,582 m asl
White peaks, gently ascending Alpine pastures and the local flora and fauna combine to create a very special atmosphere. It feels like entering an other world, far away from the hectic and rush of the every day life. At the heart of the numerous mountains you will find a small Holy Spirit Church that dates back to the year 1450 and is known to boast a legendary crucifix. By the way: lace making and sculpting little figures and masks out of roots are popular free time activities of the locals - and may come helpful when looking for some pretty souvenirs for your loved ones at home.
It takes only 20 minute and you will reach the so-called Falkensteinhof farm, featuring a quaint little museum dedicated to the world of mountain farmers. Even a small but mighty tobogganing run is provided. The ultimate skiing fun is found in the skiing areas of Speikboden and Monte Chiusetta. A popular hiking destination of Casere in summer is the Lago della Selva Lake at 2,338 m asl. Boasting an area of 5 hectares and a depth of 20 m, it is one of the biggest mountain lakes. By the way: Did you know that the lake is able to anticipate upcoming storms and bad weather?
