Predoi / Valle Aurina

Air clear of pollen and allergenic agents can be found in the former mine tunnels of Predoi - at a depth of 1,100 m, the cave therapy is an efficient therapeutic method to assist asthma and other respiratory conditions.

In the upper part of Valle Aurina you will find the friendly holiday resort of Predoi. In long passed times it featured a copper mine, closed in 1893 due to lacking profitability. Out of necessity, many women farmers moved to the city of Vienna in near-by Austria, where they studied the art of lace making. Still today, this refined handicraft is passed on from one generation to the next. Beautiful cushions, curtains, doilies and Christmas decoration are the result of this centuries-old tradition. The so-called “Haus Prettau” introduces visitors to the art of lace making.

Those who prefer to stay in the middle of nature can look forward to numerous 3,000 m high mountains, featuring stunning pastures and peaks. And lovers of culture may visit buildings such as Taufers Castle or ancient churches. Predoi and its surroundings provide plenty of sport activities and facilities (e.g. the skiing areas Speikboden and Monte Chiusetta). Highly recommendable are the local cross-country ski runs, which will take you throughout a picturesque natural scenery. Enjoy the atmosphere of peace and serenity!
