Casere

Casere (Kasern) can almost be called high alpine, the small village centre is located at about 1,600 m a.s.l. From there it is a few metres further to the Casere Information Point, where the road ends and the hikers' car park can be found. Then everything can only be explored on foot or by mountain bike: The end of the Valle Aurina valley is formed by the alpine settlement "Prastmann" and the enchanting Holy Spirit Pilgrimage Church. Here, at the foot of Mt. Vetta d'Italia in the Zillertal Alps, is the northernmost point of Italy according to the St. Germain border demarcation.

The area is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but also has a lot to offer in terms of handicrafts. Lace-making and mask carving are still important sources of income in the village today, along with handicrafts and cattle breeding, and there are also tailors who make traditional costume blouses, Christmas tree decorations and dolls. It is only a short walk from the village to the former miners' chapel Holy Spirit in the middle of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park. Alpine huts, mountain streams and grazing cows surround this idyllic spot in the mountains.

Longer tours lead to the Giogo Lungo Mountain Hut, which can be done as a circular hike through the Valle del Vento and the Valle Rossa valleys, or to the Fonte della Roccia Hut. They also turn into beautiful winter hiking trails, plus the sledding slope for children and the long Sun Track - one of the cross-country ski tracks of the valley - invite you to spend a day in the snow. Popular spring ski tour destinations are Mt. Cima del Vento and Mt. Cima Rossa di Martello (cima means peak in Italian), before the meadows then fill with spring flowers and the warm season arrives.
